Franklin students and staff recently unveiled a miniature lending library, part of a global book-sharing movement with the goal of inspiring a love of reading and giving back to the local community. The Rotary Club of Westfield purchased children's books from The Town Bookstore to initially stock Franklin's Little Library, located near the school's main entrance. Children can take a book, leave a book, or do both.
"Franklin's Little Library is an awesome example of collaboration in our community," said Franklin third grade teacher Matthew Pask who noted that head secretary Teresa Whitehead's husband -- Rob Whitehead -- built the miniature library while head custodian Jesse Rodriguez and his team installed it. "I hope this becomes a place that inspires a love of reading."
Pask, 5th grade teacher Julie Cennamo, and their students joined together to "cut" the ribbon and officially open the lending library on June 16.
