ELL Summer Experience

An Olympic theme was the focus of the English Language Learners (ELL) Summer Experience, a camp for Westfield students that provides meaningful enrichment activities to help students continue their English language acquisition.

Little Library

Franklin students and staff recently unveiled a miniature lending library, part of a global book-sharing movement with the goal of inspiring a love of reading and giving back to the local community.

Making Virtual Music

In a normal school year, the winter and spring calendars are filled with musical concerts, as student voices and instruments ring out in joyous acknowledgement of the seasons. This is not a normal year but, despite the pandemic, students and their instructors have found ways to share their music, going to great lengths to learn new technologies and create virtual ensembles that showcase their considerable talent.

ELA Supervisor Appointed

At its virtual meeting on June 15, the Westfield Board of Education approved the appointment of Elizabeth Reilly as K-12 English Language Arts Supervisor, effective July 1, 2021. Reilly has served in the position on an interim basis for grades K-5 for the past year.

Top Honors in Law Fair Competition

Fourth graders in the Westfield Public School District’s gifted education program recently placed first in the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s Law Fair Competition for grades 3-8. The Westfield team placed in the third-grade category, as they wrote “The Case of the Stolen Fossils: State of New York v. Thei Ve Rev” when they were in the third grade.

Wilson's New Principal

Congratulations to Edison Assistant Principal Crystal Marsh, appointed principal of Wilson School, effective August 1.

Author Day

Children’s book author Bridget Heos paid a virtual visit to Franklin School on May 13, sharing writing, editing, and publishing tips in three different sessions for students in Grades 1-5.

Interim Superintendent

Westfield Public Schools Business Administrator Dana Sullivan will serve as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the month of July. Sullivan was appointed by the Board of Education at its May 18 virtual meeting to hold the month-long position until Dr. Raymond González begins as the district’s new superintendent on August 1.

New Lincoln Principal

At its virtual public meeting on May 18, the Westfield Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Tiffany Jacobson as principal of the Lincoln Early Childhood Center, effective July 1, 2021.  Dr. Jacobson has served as interim principal at Lincoln for the past year. "It is no small feat to step into a school leadership role in the middle of a pandemic," says Superintendent Dr. Margaret Dolan. "As interim principal, Dr. Jacobson has handled this challenging year with grace and professionalism."

Thank You from the WEA

The Westfield Education Association’s Executive Council partnered with area restaurants to provide a special, edible thank you to the staff of the Westfield Public Schools on May 7, as Teacher Appreciation Week came to a close.
